As soon as you get a BBQ sauce stain on your Dashiki, rinse it with cold water for several minutes. This will help to dilute the stain and reduce chance of it setting in permanently. Do not use hot water, as this could cause the stain to set permanently. You may wish to use a gentle soap to help the stain come out.
After rinsing stain with cold water, you can try pretreating the stained area with either detergent or white vinegar. Start by applying a small amount of detergent or vinegar to a soft cloth and dab the stained area gently. Avoid rubbing the stain as this may spread the barbecue sauce further into the fabric. Allow detergent or vinegar to remain on stain for 10-15 minutes, then rinse with cold water.
Once you’ve pretreated stain with detergent or vinegar, you can wash the Dashiki as normal, making sure to use hot water. Follow recommendations on the label in terms of the type of detergent and cycle duration, then hang the garment to air dry.
If the stain remains after laundering, repeat the steps above before attempting other home remedies. Keep in mind that some fabrics may not tolerate certain solvents, so if the stain persists after laundering, take the garment to a professional cleaner.
