Whether it’s on your favorite cotton twill shirt or a set of linen curtains, here are a few tips to help you get rid of those pesky barbecue sauce stains.

Step 1: Act Quickly

The faster you act, better chance you have of removing stain. Before you try any kind of cleaning solution, use a clean paper towel or cloth to blot the affected area and soak up as much of the sauce as possible. Don't rub the spot as this can spread the stain further into the fabric.

Step 2: Pre-treat the Stain

Next, mix a small amount of liquid detergent with cold water to create a solution, then apply a few drops of it onto the stain. Allow solution to sit for a few minutes, then blot area with a damp cloth. This will help loosen the stain and make it easier to remove.

Step 3: Rinse and Launder

Once the stain has been pre-treated, rinse the area with cold running water. Then, before putting the garment in a washing machine, check the care label to make sure that the fabric can be washed using a machine. If you can, use coldest water setting available as this will help preserve the color. Finish off by adding a small amount of bleach-free detergent and let the washing machine do its work.

Step 4: Air Dry

Once cycle is finished, take the garment out of the machine and inspect it carefully. If the stain is still visible, repeat steps two and three until the stain is completely gone. Once you’re satisfied that the stain has been removed, hang the garment in a well-ventilated area and let it air dry.
