Steps For Removing Barbecue Sauce Stains From Cotton Piqué

  • Blot stained area with a clean, white cloth or paper towel. Do not rub or scrub the fabric, or the stain could spread.
  • Rinse the stained area with a solution of cold water and liquid dish soap. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Wash garment in washing machine using either a mild detergent or a color-safe bleaching product. For colored items, use the cold water setting.
  • If the stain remains after laundering, repeat Steps 1 to 3, but use a spot cleaner like OxyClean instead of dish soap.
  • For stubborn stains, mix together a paste of warm water, powdered laundry detergent, and baking soda. Apply the paste to the stain and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse the garment in cold water before laundering.

Tips For Staying Stain Free

  • If possible, blot away spills as soon as they occur. The sooner you act, the easier it will be to remove the stain.
  • Be sure to read care labels before laundering any garment. Many fabrics, including cotton piqué, are prone to shrinkage in hot water.
  • If the item is too delicate to launder, take it to a professional cleaner for assistance.
