Gingham cotton is a beautiful fabric, easy to clean and maintain. But it does have one downfall - barbecue sauce stains! Luckily, there are a few simple methods you can use to remove barbecue sauce from gingham cotton.

How to remove BBQ sauce from gingham cotton:

  1. Blot stain : The first step is to blot the stained area with a clean dry cloth to absorb as much of sauce as possible. Do not scrub or rub the fabric, as this may spread stain and cause it to become more difficult to remove.
  2. Detergent solution : Create a solution of one teaspoon of liquid detergent mixed with one cup of warm water. Dip a clean cloth into mixture and gently dab stained area. Keep dabbing until the stain has been completely removed.
  3. Vinegar solution : Alternatively, you can create a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water and dab the stain with this. Use a clean cloth for this method.
  4. Cleaning agent : If the stain persists, try using a light cleaning agent such as rubbing alcohol or ammonia. Apply directly to the stain, being careful not to oversaturate the fabric. Then rinse with cold water and repeat if necessary.
  5. Rinse : For any of the methods above, once the stain has been eliminated, rinse the fabric with cold water to ensure all of the cleaning agents are removed. Finally, machine or hand wash the fabric following manufacturer's instructions.

Preventing Barbecue Sauce Stains:

The best way to prevent future barbecue sauce stains on your gingham cotton is to be mindful when applying the sauce. Be sure to use a plate or napkin to catch any spills or drops before they hit the fabric.

Also, remember to always read the care instructions on the garment tag before washing, as some gingham cottons may require pre-treatment or dry-cleaning.
