The first step in removing any stain from cotton canvas is to pre-treat the fabric with cold water. This helps to loosen up stain and makes it easier to clean up. Simply run some cold tap water over stained area until it is saturated. Let the water sit for 2-3 minutes before moving on to the next step.
Once stain has been pre-treated, you can create a cleansing solution to help break down the barbecue sauce and make it easier to remove. To do this, mix equal parts dish soap and baking soda with a few tablespoons of white vinegar and hydrogen peroxide. Stir until everything is combined into a paste-like consistency.
Using a soft cloth, apply the cleansing solution directly to stained area. Use gentle circular motions to rub the solution into the fabric. It may take a few minutes to work the product fully into the material. Make sure not to scrub too hard, as this could damage the fibers of the cotton canvas.
Once the solution has had time to sit, rinse it off with cold water. If the stain is still present, repeat steps 2-4 until it is completely gone. Once the stain has been removed, hang the fabric to air dry in a well-ventilated area.
