Eliminating Barbecue Sauce Stains from Your Collared Shirts Easily
Barbecue sauce stains can be difficult to remove, especially when it’s puddled on your favorite collared shirt. But with the right steps and supplies on-hand, you can easily have your favorite shirt looking good as new in no time.

What You Need
- Paper towels
- White vinegar
- Dishwashing liquid
- Oxygen laundry detergent
Method 1: Blotting
- As soon as you notice sauce stain, gently blot at area with paper towels.
- Continue to blot dry until no more sauce is coming off of shirt and onto the paper towels.
Method 2: Vinegar Soak
- Fill a sink or bucket with enough cold water to cover the stained area.
- Add ½ cup of white vinegar to the water and stir.
- Soak the stained area in the vinegar solution for 15 minutes.
- Take the shirt out and check the stain. If the spot is still visible, repeat soaking and blotting.
Method 3: Dishwashing Detergent Soak
- Fill a sink with cold water.
- Add a few drops of dishwashing liquid to create a soapy solution.
- Soak the stained area in the soapy solution for 15 minutes.
- Rinse with cool water and then blot dry.
Method 4: Oxygen Laundry Detergent
- Mix one tablespoon of oxygen laundry detergent with two cups of warm water.
- Soak the stained area in the solution for 10-15 minutes.
- Rinse the stained area with cool water and then blot dry.
Tips
- It's important to act fast to minimize the chance that the stain will set in.
- Be sure to use a gentle blotting technique to avoid spreading the stain further.
- Spot test any solutions before using them on the entire garment.
