The first step in cleaning a BBQ sauce stain from your clothes is to immediately blot the stain with a cool, damp cloth or paper towel. Do not rub the stain as this will only cause it to spread further. Instead, gently press the cloth on the stain until most of the sauce is absorbed.
Once you have blotted the stain with cool water, apply a small amount of laundry detergent or soap directly onto the stain. Again, do not rub the fabric. Gently rub the detergent into area with your fingertips.
Once you have applied the laundry detergent or soap, rinse affected area with cool water and then blot with a clean cloth. Repeat this process until all traces of the detergent are gone.
Wash the item according to the instructions on the care label as soon as possible. If the instructions state that the item is machine washable, add a scoop of laundry detergent to wash cycle. If hand washing is required, use warm water and a mild soap. Make sure to rinse item thoroughly before air drying.
If the stain is still visible after washing, repeat steps 1-4 until it is completely gone. Be sure to check the care label before washing the item again.
You should let the detergent sit on the stain for at least 5 minutes before rinsing and blotting.
Yes, you can use cold water to blot the stain, however, cool water will be more effective.
