Time is of the essence when it comes to removing a stain - the faster you act, the better your chances of getting it out of the fabric. Begin by quickly blotting up as much of the sauce as you can using a paper towel or rag. Take care not to rub the stain or push it further into the fabric.
Pre-treating the stain will help break down its molecular structure and make it easier to remove. Prepare a solution of ¼ teaspoon liquid detergent with a cup of cold water and apply to stain with a damp cloth. Blot the area gently and allow the solution to sit for about 10 minutes.
After pre-treating the stain, fill a sink or bucket with warm water and add a mild detergent. For added effectiveness, add a tablespoon of white vinegar. Soak the dress in the solution for at least 15 minutes, agitating the fabric lightly every few minutes. After soaking, rinse dress thoroughly with cool water.
Lay the dress flat on a clean towel, away from direct sunlight, and let it air dry. Avoid using a hairdryer or iron, as this can lock the stain into the fabric. Once dry, examine the clothing to ensure the stain has been successfully removed.
