Removing BBQ Sauce Stains with Soap and Water

The quickest and simplest way to remove BBQ sauce from activewear is to act as soon as possible after the accident. Take your garment to the sink, and lightly brush away any dried bits of sauce. Run cold water over spot to dilute the sauce as much as possible. Then, work a small amount of liquid laundry detergent into the stain, working it in from edges to the center of the spot. Let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse away the mixture with cold water.

Removing BBQ Sauce Stains with White Vinegar Solution

If the stain persists, make a solution of one part white vinegar and three parts water. Work this solution into the stain with a soft-bristled brush then let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing away with cold water. Finish up by washing garment in hottest water that's safe for fabric (check the care tag), and adding a good dose of laundry detergent. Once it's dry, if necessary, use a stain remover product to get any last traces of BBQ sauce out.

Caring for BBQ Sauce-Stained Activewear

It's important to wash your BBQ-stained clothes as soon as possible to avoid any long-term staining, and regardless of what solution you use. Always inspect your garment after washing to ensure that the stain has been eradicated - leaving the stain to set could mean needing harsher cleaning methods to remove it. Be sure to read the care tag on your activewear so you don't end up using hot water or drying in the sun when not advised. Also be mindful of chemical cleaners and other products that may contain chemicals known to damage certain fabrics, such as nylon or spandex.
