To start, lay down a towel on a flat surface and gently place your wool clothing item on top of it. Gently brush off any remaining adhesive residue with a soft-bristled brush. Avoid using too much pressure, otherwise you risk damaging fibers.
Once you’ve finished brushing away the debris, carefully apply some dry cleaning fluid to the stained area. This will help loosen the adhesive residue and make stain easier to remove. Let the fluid soak for 10 minutes before moving on to the next step.
Now that the adhesive residue has been loosened up, it’s time to wash it off. Fill a sink or basin with warm water and add a mild detergent before giving the wool garment a good swish around. Let the garment soak for 20 minutes before squeezing out the excess water and rinsing with cold water.
Once you’ve finished washing, hang your garment out to dry. Avoid using an electric dryer as this could cause the adhesive to set and make the stain more difficult to remove. Once the garment is completely dry, inspect the affected area to see if the stain has disappeared.
If the stain is still there, repeat steps 2 – 4 until it has gone. If the stain persists, it may be necessary to take the garment to a professional dry cleaner.
