When tape gums up spandex, it can seem like an impossible problem to tackle. But before you give up and throw away your favorite pair of spandex pants, consider trying one of the following methods.

1. Hand Wash with a Mild Detergent

The first step to removing adhesive tape stains from spandex is to hand wash with a mild detergent. All you need is a sink or basin full of cool water, a gentle detergent, and a soft cloth or sponge. Soak garment in the soapy solution for about 15 minutes. Then, scrub gently at stain with the cloth or sponge. Rinse off the detergent with cool water.

2. Use a Spot Cleaner

For tougher stains, you may need to use a spot cleaner. There are many types of spot cleaners on the market. Make sure to choose one that specifically says it is safe to use on spandex. Before applying cleaner, test it on a small inconspicuous part of the fabric to make sure it won't cause discoloration or damage. Once you've found the right cleaner, follow the directions on the label, being careful to not over saturate the fabric.

3. Blast Away Stains with a Steam Cleaner

If the stain is still persistent after using a spot cleaner, you may need to turn to a steam cleaner. A steam cleaner uses hot steam to blast away tough stains from fabrics. Take care when using a steam cleaner on spandex as too much heat can damage the fabric. When using a steam cleaner, make sure to keep the nozzle moving around the garment in order to avoid overheating any one area.

With a bit of patience and elbow grease, you can get your spandex back to looking like it did originally. Try one of these three methods and you'll have your spandex looking good as new.
