Adhesive tape residue is one of the most common stains that wind up on sneakers, but it can be one of the trickiest to remove. Use one of these simple cleaning methods to remove it and get your shoes looking good as new again.
Removal Methods
Method 1: Rubbing Alcohol
- Mix together rubbing alcohol with an equal part of water in a small bowl.
- Dip a clean cloth into the mixture and rub it into affected area, either directly on the stained spot or in a circular motion around it. Make sure to use only short, gentle strokes.
- Leave the solution on the stained area for at least five minutes.
- After five minutes have passed, use a dry and clean cloth to wipe off the rubbing alcohol solution.
- Repeat this process until the adhesive tape stain has completely been removed.
Method 2: Hairdryer Method
- First, wet a clean cloth with some lukewarm water.
- Gently squeeze out the excess water and then dab the damp cloth over the stained area.
- Turn on your hairdryer and hold it about 8 inches away from the taped area.
- Slowly move the hairdryer back and forth while pointing it at the stained area. Keep hairdryer in motion and switch between medium-high and low heat.
- Check on the stained area after a few minutes and see if it's becoming more manageable. You may need to repeat this process several times before the adhesive tape residue is completely removed.
Method 3: WD-40
- Spray a generous amount of WD-40 on the affected area.
- Let the solution sit for a few minutes.
- Using a dry and clean cloth, wipe off the WD-40 solution.
- Repeat this process until the adhesive tape stain has been completely removed.
