The first step in getting rid of adhesive tape stains from silk dupioni fabric is to gently scrape away any excess material that you can see. Be sure to use a tool with a soft edge like a plastic butter knife or a credit card. Make sure to move slowly and carefully.
Next, use a solvent like rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover to remove any stubborn material that remains stuck to fabric. When applying solvent, saturate a cotton swab with the liquid and then dab the area lightly, using an up-and-down motion. Do not rub the fabric, as this could damage it.
If the stain still remains, mix 1 part detergent to 2 parts cool water in a bowl and dip a white cotton cloth into the solution. Blot affected area, use a blotting motion rather than rubbing, and continue until the stain begins to lighten. Use a separate damp cloth to remove the detergent from the fabric when finished.
Finally, if the stain is still present after these steps, you can try spot-cleaning the area with a gentle wool shampoo. Follow the directions on the shampoo’s packaging to create the cleaning solution and apply it to the fabric. Blot the stained area until the stain lifts.
Once the stain has been completely removed, rinse the fabric with cool water and lay it flat to dry. Do not iron the fabric until it is completely dry to prevent permanent staining.
