The first step is to identify the kind of adhesive tape that stained the dress. Different types of tape have different adhesives, which require different cleaning agents.
Once you’ve identified the type of tape, you should begin by gently scraping off as much of the adhesive residue as possible, using a dull knife or a spoon.
If there is still some residue on the dress, try using a damp cloth and some dish soap to scrub it off. Gently rub the cloth on the stain in a circular motion.
If that doesn't work, you can also try dabbing the stain with alcohol. Use a Q-tip or a small cloth to apply the alcohol directly onto the stain. Rub until the stain disappears.
Finally, to help prevent permanent damage to your shift dress, always finish up by treating the fabric with a fabric stain remover. For best results, look for a product specifically designed for removing adhesive tape stains.
