The first step is to gently peel off the tape. Start by peeling it slowly, being careful not to pull hard on the tape. Try to get the adhesive tape off in one piece if possible. Do not use a blade or sharp object to try to scrape off the tape as this can damage or tear the fabric of the poncho.
Once the tape is removed, use upholstery attachment on a vacuum cleaner to suck up any remaining residue from the surface of the poncho. This will help to remove any dust or dirt that is stuck on the tape.
Next, make a solution of warm water and detergent. Dip a cleaning cloth in solution and use it to wipe down the area where the tape was. This will help to remove any residue that is left over from adhesive tape.
If there are still some stubborn stains left over, use a stain remover specifically designed for fabrics. Be sure to follow the instructions on the label of the product when applying it to the poncho.
Once all stain remover has been applied, rinse the poncho with clean water and then allow it to air dry. Do not put the poncho in dryer as this could cause the adhesive stains to set in permanently.
When the poncho is almost dry, use a soft-bristled brush or lint-free cloth to brush away any remaining residue on the surface. Be sure to go over the entire area to make sure that no residue is left behind.
Finally, use a low heat setting and iron the poncho to help it look crisp and neat. This will also help to remove any remaining adhesive stains.
