Adhesive tape may be subtle and useful in many everyday tasks, but it can also leave an ugly mess when it attaches itself onto outdoor furniture. You can try to peel it off with your hands, but chances are it’ll leave a stick residue behind. If this is a problem that you're facing, here are some solutions that can help you simplify the process of cleaning off your furniture.

1. Gently heat up the adhesive residue with a hairdryer

Start by using a low-heat setting on a hairdryer and pass it over the entire area of tape residue. Be sure not to keep the hairdryer on the adhesive for too long as it could cause damage to the furniture. You may also need to pass over the same area multiple times before adhesive starts to loosen.

2. Wipe away adhesive

Once the adhesive starts to soften and loosen, use an old cloth or rag to wipe it away. Make sure to wipe in one direction to avoid spreading the adhesive around. Do not scrub too hard, as this could damage the surface of the furniture.

3. Use acetone if necessary

If wiping the adhesive away doesn’t work, you can always reach for acetone (also known as nail polish remover) to dissolve the adhesive. Make sure to use a small amount of acetone, and be sure not to over apply it. Blot the area with the acetone and then use a cloth to wipe the area clean. Test the acetone on a hidden area of the furniture first to make sure it does not cause any damage.

4. Finish up with warm soapy water

Once you are done, be sure to clean the area with warm soapy water to remove the acetone. Use a soft cloth and gently wipe the area clean. Rinse cloth a few times with fresh water to make sure all soap residue is removed.

It may take some elbow grease and patience, but with these steps you should have no problem removing adhesive tape stains from your outdoor furniture. Good luck!
