The first step is to scrape off as much of the excess glue as possible. To do this, use a plastic scraper or butter knife in a gentle sawing motion. It’s important not to use sharp tools or items that could snag the fabric as this could cause further damage to the garment. Ensure the area is clear of any debris before proceeding.
Once the excess glue has been removed, apply a stain remover specifically designed for adhesive tape. If you don't have a specific stain remover, a mixture of vinegar, dish soap and warm water should also do the trick. Use a white cloth to apply the solution directly on the stain and let it sit for approximately five minutes.
Once the stain remover has had enough time to work its magic, rinse off the solution with cold water. Then, wash fabric with your regular laundry detergent according to the care instructions on garment's label. Set the washing machine to a gentle cycle using cold water.
Once the fabric is out of the washing machine, blot area with a white towel. Do not rub, as this could cause further damage to the material. To absorb more of the remaining moisture, place a few sheets of paper towel over the moist area and press lightly.
The final step is to air dry the fabric. Hang garment up in a well-ventilated area and leave it to dry naturally. Avoid using a hairdryer or any direct heat sources when drying the fabric as this could affect the colour and cause shrinkage.
