Cloth face masks, while essential for preventing the spread of Covid-19, can become quickly stained from adhesive tape. If you’ve ever had to hold a mask in place with tape, chances are that you’ve also noticed stubborn adhesive stains that can be difficult to remove.
If so, don’t worry. You don’t have to throw away your mask just yet! Here’s how to get rid of those pesky adhesive stains in five easy steps:
Before you start cleaning the stain, pre-treat it with a fabric stain remover. This will help to loosen adhesive and make it easier to remove. Allow the remover to sit on the stain for a few minutes before moving to the next step.
Once you have pre-treated the stain, gently rub a small amount of mild detergent into it. Focus on the area around the stain, as this will help to break up the adhesive. Allow the detergent to sit for a few minutes.
Using a damp cloth, spot clean the stain by dabbing it firmly. Keep applying gentle pressure and rubbing the area to help further break up the adhesive. Once you have finished spot cleaning, rinse area with warm water.
After you have rinsed off stain, wash the entire mask in the washing machine. Use cold water and a mild detergent to ensure the best results. Then, set the washing machine on a gentle cycle and allow the mask to air dry.
If the stain is still visible after washing, repeat the steps above until it is completely gone. For particularly stubborn stains, you may need to pre-treat the area again with fabric stain remover.
With these five steps, you can keep your mask looking fresh and free of any annoying adhesive stains.
