The Easiest Way to Remove Adhesive Tape Stains from an Evening Gown

First, determine if the fabric is washable or dry-clean only. It's important to follow the care instructions on the label to avoid shrinking or discoloration of the fabric. Next, take a small bowl and add some cold water and a tablespoon of detergent. Soak a clean cloth in the solution and test it by rubbing the stains gently. If stains don't shift, try a store-bought pre-wash stain remover, and then hand-wash the fabric with a mild detergent. For best results, hang the fabric to air dry instead of machine drying it.

You could also try the following methods for removing stubborn adhesive tape stains:

  • Rubbing Alcohol: Take a clean cloth and dab some rubbing alcohol onto it. Gently rub the stained area with the cloth. Wait a few minutes and then rinse the fabric. Repeat the process until the stains are gone.
  • Vinegar: Dilute vinegar with two parts of water and pour it on the stained area. Let it sit for a few minutes and rinse with cold water. Repeat this process if needed and let the fabric air dry.
  • Hairspray: Spray hairspray on the stained area and let it sit for several minutes. Rub fabric gently and rinse with cold water. Repeat this process if needed.

If you still can’t get rid of the adhesive tape stains, it might be time to take your evening gown to the dry cleaner. A dry cleaner may have special solutions and techniques that can help remove even the toughest stains.
