What You'll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Distilled water
  • Mild liquid detergent
  • Soft bristled brush or sponge
  • Towel
  • Chalk powder

Step 1: Soak the Stain in White Vinegar

Start by soaking the stain in white vinegar for 10-15 minutes. If the fabric is very delicate, you can dilute it with some distilled water. After your fabric has been soaked, blot the area with a clean towel.

Step 2: Mix Detergent and Water

Mix a mild liquid detergent with some distilled water, creating a solution. This will help break down the adhesive on the fabric before scrubbing.

Step 3: Scrub the Stain Gently

Take a soft bristled brush or sponge and dip it in the detergent solution. Gently scrub the stain, working solution into fabric. Move in a circular motion, being careful not to scrub too hard. Repeat as needed until the stain disappears.

Step 4: Rinse with Water

Once the stain has been removed, rinse the area with clean water, removing any residue from the detergent. Blot dry with a clean towel.

Step 5: Apply Chalk Powder

After the fabric dries completely, apply a light layer of chalk powder to the area. Allow the chalk to sit overnight, absorbing any remaining traces of adhesive.

Step 6: Remove the Chalk Powder

In the morning, brush off the chalk powder with a clean, dry cloth. Your fabric should now be free of any sticky tape stains!
